It is legal to sell and eat cat and dog meat in Vietnam
Dog meat restaurants openly advertise and serve dog meat and sometimes cat meat. Often cats are shipped north to cities like Hanoi where cat meat is more popular. You can also eat cat in Hoi An at some restaurants. Just like dogs, it is 100% legal to buy and sell and serve cat meat. The problem is that all of the meat is black market. Which means it is all stolen.
All dog meat served in Hoi An is from stolen pets
Vietnam makes cat and dog meat farming illegal. Therefore, the only source for the dog restaurants is stolen pets.
In countries like South Korea dog meat is farmed, like with cattle for beef, or pigs for pork. This means evil thieves are not common. In Vietnam stealing cats and dogs is encouraged and essential because the stem is broken.
Everyday families hearts are broken when their beloved cat or dog is stolen by local thieves. They usually steal pets at night, after casing the joint in the daytime.
China and Cambodia are banning dog and cat meat
Siem Reap is the most popular tourist destination in Cambodia. The government recently banned cat met and dog meat, putting an end to 21 restaurants which repulsed international tourists.
China is also ahead of Vietnam. Dog and cat meat was recently outlawed in Schenzen and Zhuhai.
Why is dog and cat meat still legal in Hoi An?
80% of Vietnamese people are estimated to be OK with the dog and cat meat trade. The number is dropping as education about cats and dogs improves and people begin to think about how selfish and disgusting it is to eat their neighbors’ beloved pets.
All dog meat restaurants serve stolen dogs. The thieves are dangerous criminals, often drug addicts on Hoi An’s meth junkie scene. These drug addicts have only their next fix of methamphetamines in mind. They have no morals. They don’t care about breaking people’s hearts by stealing beloved pet cats and dogs.
Hoi An is One of Asia’s top tourist destinations whose reputation is ruined by inhumane treatment of animals
Dogs are tortured in Hoi An!
The police rarely, if ever make an arrest. They turn a blind eye to this disgusting behavior. It is simply normal for locals to eat dog meat. People want fresh meat and this is usually obtained through inhumane methods including boiling dogs alive.
When dogs are stolen in Hoi An, they are poisoned, tasered with high voltage electricity, hooked with metal blades, choked with metal wire to grab the animals as quickly as possible. They are then packed in small cages and watch as the other dogs are killed in front of their eyes. Popular ways to kill a dog include boiling whilst still alive, hitting the dogs on the head until they pass out, often with a blunt instrument which can take several painful attempts before the dig is killed or unconscious, then their throat is cut.

They often have no shde as they are slowly transported in journeys up to 26 hours long in 114 degree farenheight heat.
Hanoi government recognizes that banning dog and cat meat would improve Vietnam’s reputation. Yet nothing has been done to make the torture stop in Hanoi or Hoi An.
Vietnam consumes more dog and cat met than any other country.
Whilst China is estimated to eat 25 million dogs per year. Vietnam is estimated to consume 5 million dogs. China’s population is far higher than Vietnam, which makes the number of dogs eaten per 100 people much much higher in Vietnam.
Vietnam has the most violent and abusive treatment of cats and dogs
Whilst we do not condone other countries which consume cat and dog meat, at least South Korea has a regulated industry, where the meat is properly farmed. This means cats and dogs are not tortured and stolen like in Vietnam.
The Vietnamese dig and cat meat industry breaks the hearts of millions of pet owners every year.
